The Safety Auditor Trainer participates in planning, auditing, monitoring and reviewing both program requirements and supports various department managers and supervisors in their role to implement and enforcement of Food Safety, and Occupational Health and Safety Policy. The scope of the job includes all BC Tree Fruits Cooperative departments and locations including the Cidery, and all Growers Supply Company Ltd departments and locations.

The successful candidate will have the following key accountabilities:
• Carry out risk assessments and consider how risks could be reduced.
• Audit the Food Safety Program with site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented.
• Outline safe work procedures which identify and take into account all relevant hazards.
• Audit the OH&S Program with site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented.
• Advise on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases.
• Ensure working practices are safe and comply with legislation.
• Prepare food safety strategies and develop internal policy.
• Outline standard operating procedures which identify and take into account all relevant food safety risks.
• Ensure standard operating procedures are followed and comply with program requirements.
• Perform periodic, weekly and monthly monitoring of program documentation and records.

The successful candidate will have the following key attributes:
• Solid verbal and written communication skills
• Strong leadership skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
• Strong patience and ability to deal under pressure where they are able to simultaneously work with multiple departmental managers and demands
• Able to facilitate change and adapt easily to it

• HACCP accredited is an asset

• Ability to travel to different locations within the Okanagan Valley and occasionally provincial wide

-- Production Custodian/First Aid Attendant --

Looking for an exciting new opportunity to jump start your career? BC Tree Fruits Cooperative is seeking a motivated hands-on Production Custodian/First Aid Attendant at our Northern locations to join our team!

The Production Custodian/First Aid Attendant is responsible for common cleaning duties in accordance with BCTFC Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP’s) while attending to the medical needs of employees working. The scheduled shift will consist of approximately 80% custodial work and 20% first aid. All duties must be performed in a safe manner to ensure compliance with government regulations, industry standards and customer requirements to ensure both food and workers safety.
Responsibilities:
• Adhere to all WSBC regulations and Cooperative safety procedures, including but not limited to:
o First Aid Procedures
o WHMIS Regulations
o Personal Protective Equipment
o Lockout Procedures
• Adhere to all pertinent SSOP’s, cleaning schedules (as per Janitorial logs), Safe Work Procedures and Food Safety requirements as outlined in the Cooperative’s Food Safety program and your training.
• Ensure all activities are recorded on Janitorial Logs in a detailed, truthful manner that accurately reflects the work performed. Ensure effective, corrective actions are recorded for activities not completed as per the schedule.
• Detailed cleaning activities as required.
• Attend to all accidents & injuries within the packinghouse operation and perform first aid duties as required. Report all incidents to Management promptly while keeping all first aid information confidential.
• Complete all pertinent paperwork as required by WSBC and the Cooperative, including (but not limited to) detailed first aid and follow up records.
• Maintain the first aid facilities at appropriate levels of cleanliness and stocked with adequate supplies by communicating needs to Management.
• Actively participate in and support the Stay at Work/Return to Work program, including maintaining contact with the Health & Wellness Coordinator.
• Be an active member of the Joint Health & Safety Committee, attending the monthly meetings and participating as required.
• Adhere to all pertinent Food Safe procedures as required and detailed under the Food Safety program and your training.
• Cleaning of washrooms, lunchrooms and other areas of the premises as required.
• Removal of garbage, including bins from production floor.
• Sanitization of all food contact surfaces.
• Clean up of debris or water resulting from production.
• Provide guidance and assistance using proper cleaning procedures in the event of an unforeseen food safety incident occurs (IE. a hydraulic line breaks or large spill of food product occurs).
• Seasonal maintenance such as shovelling walkways.
• Ensure all activities are recorded on First Aid Records in a truthful, detailed manner that accurately reflects the work performed.
• Participate in first aid drills.
• Other duties as assigned by Management within the context of custodial and first aid.

Qualifications:
• Level 1 First Aid Ticket
• Be willing to submit to periodic proficiency testing as Management deems necessary.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with fellow employees and Management.
• Must be comfortable working around moving equipment; in water; in cramped, confined or enclosed spaces; with diluted cleaning chemicals, or at heights such as ladder work or on scissor lifts.
• Be able to work with or without direct supervision, individually or part of a team.
• Well organized with the ability to maintain and keep clear, detailed records with legible hand writing.
• Be discreet and handle employee information with confidentiality.
• Proven diligence in following all WSBC and Cooperative work safe policies and procedures.
• Be physically capable to perform all duties as required, including heavy labour and sustained strenuous physical activity.
• Must be reliable and maintain above average attendance.
• Must be able to perform tasks to the required standards.
• Able to work all shifts, including afternoons, evenings and weekends, 8 hour or 10 hour shifts, as required

Wage for this position = $15.90/hour day shift, $16.90 afternoon shift.

BC Tree Fruits Cooperative is currently looking to add a Full-Time Refrigeration Mechanic to our talent base by identifying enthusiastic, career minded, innovative and most importantly team players who are willing to go the mile to get the job done. The Refrigeration Mechanic will report to the Maintenance/CA Lead hand and is responsible maintenance of ammonia refrigeration equipment and controlled atmosphere storage rooms. This position is located in our Northern district working at our Kelowna, Rutland and Winfield Locations

The successful applicant will have the following key accountabilities:
• Organize, assist and coordinate the operation, maintenance, the servicing of plant refrigeration facilities and equipment in cold storage areas and controlled atmosphere rooms.
• Implement and lead a Planned Preventive Maintenance program for the North area to work towards meeting and exceeding company goals.
• Assist the South Mechanic as and when required.
• Work on and assist in the installation and maintenance of the numerous electrical or pressure-operated controls pertinent to all systems
• Required to interpret system performance, diagnose faults and perform effective follow-up of same.
• Keep in consistent communication with Management regarding issues, projects and timelines.
• Work as an effective team player with the rest of the Cold Storage & Maintenance Department to achieve an efficient work place with optimum operations.

The new BC Tree Fruits Cider Company is currently seeking a motivated, safety orientated, and organized individual to join our team as a Cellar Foreman. Our ideal candidate will have previous supervisory experience as well as have worked within the cidery/winery/brewery industry.

The BC Tree Fruits Cooperative (BCTFC) is owned by fruit growers throughout the entire Okanagan Valley, employs approximately 500 employees, and operates multiple facilities. The successful applicant will have the following key accountabilities:
• Assist in managing juice pressing operation periods
• Be involved in cellar operations, including fermentation, racking, transfers, blending and filtration
• Liaise with lab technicians and winemaking team
• Supervising and running the canning line during canning periods
• Supervising cidery production staff to reduce downtime and increase output levels
• Troubleshooting mechanical issues and make recommendations to Cidery Manager as needed
• Ensuring fill-rates and output requirements are met
• Responsible for ensuring proper sanitation requirements and quality needs are met and exceeded as well as health and safety protocols are being strictly adhered to
• Effectively communicate and build strong relationships with store supervisors, internal sales and cidery team

The successful applicant will be qualified by possessing the following key attributes:
• Prior cellar/bottle shop experience with demonstrated supervisor aptitude
• Knowledge of winery or beverage processing equipment, bottling filters, safety equipment, standard processing procedures and safety practices
• Possess strong mechanical knowledge and have ability to troubleshoot various machines-Millwright certificate considered an asset
• Completion of Cellar and Winemaking courses, Wine Ambassador course or Sommelier/WSET Certificate is an asset
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organizational, analytical and problem solving abilities
• Related training and/or College/University education will be considered an asset
• Demonstrated team player with the ability to work under high pressure situations
