The Beauty of B.C. Brand Fruit

The beauty of B.C. Brand fruit is not just skin deep…fruit is chock-full of phytonutrients, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, fibre; the list goes on. Take a look at the list below which overviews just a few of the things it can do for your skin and body.

Signs of aging

Antioxidants—especially those in blueberries—help fight oxidative stress, which has been connected to aging and development of some diseases.

Teeth

Apples are called “nature’s toothbrush.” They massage the gums, and tests indicate they minimize the potential for tooth decay.

Eyes

Japanese studies suggest that eating blueberries can help prevent weak eyesight.

Bones

Apples and cherries—to give just two examples—contain boron which assists the body to absorb calcium, improves bone health and may help combat osteoporosis.

Lungs

Tests reveal that eating at least one apple a day improves lung function, helps against asthma, and reduces incidence of lung cancer.

Heart

Fibre, pectin and flavonoids in fruits have been shown to reduce plaque on the walls of arteries. They also can lower LDL (the "lethal" cholesterol). Anthocyanins found in cherries seem to minimize risk of coronary heart disease and give more protection to arteries than vitamins C and E. Consumption of fresh apples directly correlates to a reduced risk of death from coronary heart disease.

Mind

Boron again—also found in pears and peaches – shown to improve hand-eye coordination and brain activity. Resveratrol, found in grapes, may protect against nerve damage related to aging. Preliminary tests with blueberry-enriched diet exhibited reversal of some age-related memory problems.

Disease protection

Ellagic acid—found in raspberries, blueberries, and apples—shows promise as an anti-carcinogen; especially against tumours of liver and lungs. Quercetin—common in apples—is considered a stronger anti-cancer agent than vitamin C. Antioxidants are considered important contributors toward preventing or delaying the onset of cancer and many age-related diseases, including cataracts.

Weight Control

Fruit makes and excellent, fat-free snack—more nutritious than “junk food” which can actually deplete the body of essential nutrients. Fibre provides a “full” feeling and there’s more fibre in one medium-size apple than in a single serving of oatmeal. Dieters also appreciate the fruit’s crunchy, refreshing sweetness.

Fruits are chemically complex and contain a myriad of beneficial compounds. Researchers have found that these work in combination, synergistically, to provide more wallop than any single compound. Hundreds of studies continue to substantiate the positive health impact of eating 5 to 10 a day. What a bonus… something so good for you, that tastes so awesome!
