Food Synergy
You’ll probably be hearing the term “food synergy” more frequently from now on. Simply stated, synergy means one plus one equals more than two. When applied to the food industry, people are getting enthusiastic.
In our fast-paced world, we’re likely to wish for a one-shot pill to help fight aging and disease. A single pill can’t possibly carry the vast and unique combination of nutrients that occurs naturally in fruit and vegetables. Nor can a pill duplicate the benefits from the way nutrients interact. Researchers have isolated and studied single phytochemicals, vitamins, and minerals. They’re now proving that no single compound by itself shows the same antioxidant or anti-cancer properties that a combination of those compounds does.
Hundreds of studies have shown that eating 5 or more servings per day of fruit and vegetables can improve the body’s natural functioning and vastly decrease the likelihood of contracting heart disease and some cancers.
So, keep those fruits and vegetables in your everyday diet. An apple or other fresh fruit in your lunchbox, in your car, or on your desk makes it easy to grab a satisfying, healthy snack.
