Read Those Labels!

Walk down any aisle in any grocery store and you can see people intently reading the labels on just about everything. Consumers obviously want information about the foods they eat.

Labelling regulations from Health Canada state that Nutrition Facts tables must follow a consistent format that includes calories and 13 key nutrients in a specified amount of food.

For the first time, Health Canada now also allows certain claims that point up the link between eating fresh fruit and vegetables and reducing the chances of some types of cancer, heart disease, and stroke. This is to help consumers make informed, healthy choices for the foods they eat.

How savvy are you when it comes to reading labels? Check out Health Canada’s Interactive Nutrition Label for more info and a fun quiz.
