5 Plus per Day

Modern researchers are proving the synergistic and preventative effects of phytonutrients and antioxidants found in plant-based food. Campaigns in both the US and Canada reflect the value of fresh fruits and vegetables as pivotal to good health.

5 to 10 a day—For better health

In Canada, “5 to 10 a day—For better health” points up the relationship between 5 to 10 servings of fruit and vegetables a day and increased health benefits. The goal is to encourage Canadians to eat at least 5 servings per day to help reduce the risk of cancer and cardio-vascular disease. A major focus of the campaign, “Unlock Your Colours!” presents a simple method for selecting fruits and vegetables from five colour groups: red, yellow/orange, green, white/tan/brown, and blue/purple.

Eat 5 to 9 A Day

In the US, “Eat 5 to 9 A Day for Better Health” presents simple methods for selecting fruits and vegetables, and highlights “Different Bodies. Different Needs.” They also recommend five “Colors of Health”: red, yellow/orange, green, white, and blue/purple. Choosing one or two from each colour group encourages people to eat a larger variety of produce.
