Organics at Retail
The organic market maintains its double-digit growth, and the largest chunk of that market continues to be fresh produce. According to Statistics Canada, overall consumption of produce is up from 10 years ago. Apples, including organic, remain one of the top three fruits chosen by consumers.
Some suggestions to keep organics moving:
- Set up the produce in high traffic areas.
- Use readable, recognizable signage that’s easy to spot.
- Use signage that distinguishes organic from conventional products.
- Restock and keep displays full.
- Offer a full variety of choices, with good colour contrast between items.
- Daily specials, weekly promotions, and cross-merchandising help propel sales.
Special packaging for B.C. Brand organics
To help make things easier for the retailer, B.C. Tree Fruits has packaging designed solely for B.C. Brand organic produce:
- Accented with sunshine yellow, the labelling indicates that both the grower and packing location are certified organic.
- The familiar B.C. Brand leaf logo has a slightly different colour scheme.
- Larger, yellow PLU stickers carry the usual product designation preceded by a 9.
