Apple Torte

This easy to prepare, yet it is a gourmet dessert that is always a hit with guests.
Serves 6.

Crust:

1 cup (250 ml) flour
1/2 cup (125 ml) butter
1/4 teaspoon (1.2 ml) vanilla
1/3 cup (80 ml) white sugar

In mixing bowl, cream butter, sugar and vanilla. Mix in flour and press into a springform pan.

Filling:

1 - 8 oz. package light cream cheese
1/4 cup (60 ml) sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) vanilla

Combine all filling ingredients and blend until smooth. Pour onto crust.

Topping:

1/3 cup (80 ml) sugar
1 teaspoon (5 ml) cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon (1.2 ml) ground cloves
4 cups apples (1 liter), peeled and sliced

Toss all topping ingredients and spoon over filling.

Bake at 450° F for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 400° F and bake for 25 minutes. Cool. Optional: Serve garnished with whipped cream.
