Cherries
Beautiful dark sweet cherries start the Okanagan’s summer fruit harvest; usually around the third week in June. Late-ripening varieties carry the season well into August—one of the latest in North America.
- Extend the delight of summer’s B.C. Brand cherries by freezing. Simply remove stems, remove pits or not—your choice depending on how you intend to use. Place in single layer on shallow pan in freezer until frozen. Store in resealable plastic bags so you can pour out just the right amount when winter snows swirl.
- Add chopped, fresh sweet cherries to ground meat to add moisture, flavour, and nutrition.
- Cherries work well in salsas and jams, muffins and clafoutis.
- Remove pits and preserve with brandy and sugar to yield a luxurious topping for ice cream.
- Cherries are great for travelling. There’s no preparation; simply rinse and enjoy!
