Apple Tuna Melts

Try this fresh twist on a classic favourite!

Makes 4 slices or 2 servings


1 tart BC Tree Fruits apple, finely diced (peeling is optional)
1 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 can tuna, water-packed
3 tbsp mayonnaise
1 green onion, finely chopped
1/8 tsp freshly ground pepper
salt to taste
4 slices crusty, multigrain bread
grated cheese of your choice, about 2 Tbsp per slice


  1. In medium-sized bowl, toss apples with lemon juice. Add tuna, mayonnaise, green onion, pepper and salt (if using). Stir to combine well.
  2. Preheat oven to broil.
  3. Spread apple tuna mixture evenly on 4 slices of a favourite crusty bread that has been lightly buttered. If preferred you can toast the bread first. Sprinkle each slice with grated cheese. Broil for 4–5 minutes to melt cheese. Serve immediately.
